Are we going to get more today then TV, Sports and Call of Duty's dog Bro?
This is a bit of a surprise starting of with Kojima's Productions. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain! New game play is shown. Open world and horseback riding. Real time weather effects New ways to hide. It appears more free flowing and less scripted than previous games in the series. In the trailer it is Kiefer Sutherland playing Snake, so it seems like I was right that this was not Kojima trolling us. Outer Heaven is shown. The story has finally come full circle! This game is coming to X-Box One! A game that seriously has my interest. Not an exclusive, but an awesome games .75 points
A new model model of the 360 is revealed. Smaller and slimmer. Taking a page out of PlayStation Plus, by offering two free games a month to X-Box gold subscribers. World of Tanks is coming to 360, this is a non mover for me as I am not interested in online centered games. It's a popular PC title for sure., but it is free to play, and this is not something I think Microsoft has embraced before. Max the Curse of Brotherhood, looks to be a puzzle platformer. Darksouls II is shown, this medievil themed series that is too difficult for me to get into, but this game does appeal gamers looking for a challenge. +1 Point
All games from this point on will be for XBox One.
Ryse: Son of Rome An Roman themed game. The trailer is a group of soldiers storming a beach in almost a Normandy style. The graphics are impressive. In addition to combat the player will also take command his soldiers. This is very violent as the player stabbed many enemies through the throat. This is from Crytek. It is an exclusive for XBox One. As a side note it is nice to see them do something that is not another Crysis. This is a point for X Box. An intriguing exclusive game. 1 point
Killer Instinct was shown as predicted. Another Exclusive. I've never played this series so I don't know what the big deal is. I do know it is a fighting game series that was popular in the 90's, but the crowd seemed excited for this one. It deserves A point.
The next presenter is Insomnicac!? Presenting an exlusive!? I'm shocked they would work with someone besides Sony after the way EA leeched all of the creativity out of the recently released FUSE. Lets just hope it's not a first person shooter...Sunset Overdrive. A stylized open world shooter, it sounds like Destiny meets Boarderlands. An Online focused game, but it looks cartoonish and fun. The weapons look creative like Ratchet and Clank. 1.75 points 1 point for taking away one of Sony's toys. The game gets .75 because of the online focus which means I likely will not play it.
A game about racing cars. Fortza 5. They bring an actual car on stage. It looks pretty. And there is an asynchronous multi-player. It dose not look as fun as Fortza Horizon, but I will give this game .5 points.
Minecraft is coming to X-Box One. No points, because even though this game is popular. It has zero interest to me and it is all ready on 360. 0 points
Quantum Break another exclusive. An expolision happens and a man stops time and saves a woman It didn't even look like a game, but it does look interesting. .25 points for being neat, but not showing anything.
An exclusive episodic murder mystery. Looks promising, but this was just a flashy tease. Hopefully this adapts to player choice like Heavy Rain or the Walking Dead .5 points
Project Spark? An exclusive. It works with Smart Glass, the technology in your Windows tablet or phone. that interacts with your X Box. It is a three dimensional Little Big Planet World Builder. With Simple Mod Nation Racers creative tools. An evolution of a great idea, and it looks like a fun cooperative ideas. 1 point.
Smart Glass returns. I really don't see the need for a second screen that displays stats. Matchmaking was shown than Killer Instinct was demoed. It would have been more entertaining if they had actually fight against each other. They are partnering with Twitch for sharing video.
Crimson Dragon. An exclusive from the creator of Panzar Dragoon. Technical difficulties for an interesting game. There is no sound .5 points.
Dead Rising 3: Not featuring Frank West. Is this a mistake? Or will Capcom release the Frank West edition a few months later? It looks good, and a 3rd party exclusive to boot Even more interactive than the previous games in the series. There had to be thousands of zombies on screen at a given time and there was no slowdown when dealing with everything that is going on on screen. Grand Theft Auto Zombieland. But apparently there are some options in the game you can only access with Smart Glass. .75 points because I don't want to be shackled to a second screen, and Capcom will likely release a better version a few months after release. Project Spark was good in that was a collaborative experience, but this forces the player to use to devices to play a game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. A open world fantasy game, but not an exclusive as this game will be on PS4 and PC. There will be Kinect and SmartGlass integration, but it will not be intrusive like Dead Rising. It will be for menus and inventory management. I am looking forward to this game, but as it is not an exclusive it doesn't earn a full point .75 points
EA shows Battlefield 4. A modern military first person shooter. The crowd boos, and their are technical difficulties and the game wont play. -.5 points as this is the genre I dislike and technical difficulties. It's flashy, but all of these modern military first person shooters look the same to me. When they show Call of Duty I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you put the games side by side. They got a timed exclusive DLC of the first map pack
A rouglike game is shown. It is an exclusive. The title is called Below. It does not impress me at all. .25points
Balck Tusk Studio's game. A tease is shown with a character repelling from a skyscraper .25 I don't like these teases.
Halo 5 is teased we see Master Chief, but i would have liked to see a sweet trailer like they showed for Halo 4 last year. Halo would score higher if it had shown more than a teasertrailer, because Halo 4 was the first time I had cared about the series since Halo 2. .5 points
Price: $499. The crowd boos. No subsidesd pricing model either. To be released in November That is too expensive. I was hoping for a $399 price. -1.5 points. This is too expensive, and if I can't afford your console I won't be playing your exclusive games. Take out the Kinect and save me a hundred buck, because I've seen no meaningful game play utilize it yet. Aside from Harmonix's no Kinect Gameplay has excited me
A game from Respawn. There are Mechs and soldiers. It is a Sci-Fi FPS Exclusive. The title is TiatinFall. It is an exclusive that looks graphically impressive, but really just looks like Call of Duty Future warfare.... .75 points. Perhaps I'm still sore after the price point. Update: This game is not a X BOX One Exclusive. It will be on 360 and PC as well.
No ties. Why don't the Microsoft executives wear ties, and the blazers with t-shirts look really classy... This is the biggest dog and pony show in the games industry. This the game industry's chance to put their best foot forward. So try to class it up -.5 points for Geoff Kieghly presenting himself more professionally than anyone at Microsoft.
But I'll counter this by giving them .5 points for not showing Call of Duty.
They did not address the online DRM or Used game concerns -.5 points
Total Score 8 points.
+Games Microsoft brought the games with full force
+I didn't have to see Call of Duty
+Dead Rising 3
-Price is to Expensive
-Didn't address online DRM or Used game sales or sharing
-Forced Smart Glass Integration
-
All right Sony the gauntlet was thrown. It is still your show to lose. Show us more games, and give us that $399 price point, and you will have my money this holiday season.
